Which Teams Have Scored The Highest Runs In The IPL?

IPL is all about fiery matches that are full of sixes and boundaries, catches, and run-outs. With all this action being a part of every match, the ones with the highest run in IPL were nothing short of spectacular to watch. So, regardless of whether you have managed to catch all these matches live or not, here’s taking you through the highlights of each of the games. Let’s get started!

1. Royal Challengers Bangalore – 263/5 against Pune Warriors

Royal Challengers Bangalore have never been the winner of the tournament. However, they have two of the highest team totals scored in the history of IPL. Thanks to the unbeaten 175 by Chris Gayle, RCB hammered out Pune Warriors in 2013 by scoring a humongous 263/5 at their home ground. Gayle’s mammoth score had 13 fours and 17 sixes, which came off only 66 deliveries.

This was not only the highest run in IPL but also the fastest century ever scored. He managed to score 175 runs in only thirty balls, which made him the cricketer with the highest individual score in a T20 match. Gayle surpassed the record of Brendon McCullum from Kolkata Knight Riders, who had scored 158 runs for 73 balls at the same stadium.

2. Royal Challengers Bangalore – 248/3 against Gujarat Lions

RCB scored their second-highest run against Gujarat Lions by scoring a huge 248/3 thanks to the combined efforts of AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli, who scored 129 and 109, respectively. It was the fateful day at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in 2016 when Gujarat Lions were hammered out for 104 runs in 18.4 overs, which led to their 144-run defeat.

The combined partnership of De Villiers and Kohli pummeled the Lions and added 229 runs to the board in only sixteen overs. This also helped Kohli earn the record of being the first player in the IPL history to have two centuries against the same team. 3. Chennai Super Kings – 246/5 against Rajasthan Royals

Murali Vijay made the bowling attack of the Rajasthan Royals fall apart like anything. While Rajasthan Royals scored 127 runs off 56 balls, Chennai Super Kings blew them out of the water with their 246/5 score. Back in 2010, CSK scored the highest team total in the tournament at the MA Chidambaram stadium. In fact, they had beaten their own record of 240/5 against Punjab in 2008.

Vijay scored the second-highest individual score in the tournament with his 127 runs, which was right after McCullum’s record of 157 runs. He became the third Indian cricketer to score a century after Yusuf Pathan and Manish Pandey. 4. Kolkata Knight Riders – 245/6 against Kings XI Punjab

Kolkata Knight Riders were hitting boundaries almost at every ball during their match against Kings XI Punjab in 2018. KKR put up 245/6 on the board, which is still the highest score at the famous Holkar Stadium in Indore. The foundation for the score was laid by Sunil Narine with 4×6 and 9×4 displays. He was offered ample support by Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa. The winning momentum was carried forward by Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik.

While Narine broke Punjab’s game early, Russell and Karthik completely demoralized them in the death overs. Several hits had gone to the third tier and the umpires had to replace lost balls twice. KKR won by 31 runs and Punjab could only score 214/8.

5. Chennai Super Kings – 240/5 against Kings XI Punjab

Chennai Super Kings vs. Kings XI Punjab was the second match of the first edition of IPL. It was the first outing of MS Dhoni’s CSK, and they showed their mettle right from the start. Hussey had scored the fastest hundred in T20 cricket back at that time, and it catapulted Chennai Super Kings to 240/5 runs in Mohali.

And this match was nothing short of carnage as there were ten sixes and seven boundaries hit by Hussey. He scored 116 runs off only 54 balls. This was the second century in this tournament after McCullum had played brilliantly in the previous match in Bangalore. Suresh Raina, S Badrinath, and Matthew Hayden also offered ample support to Hussey to turn the tides in their favor. Punjab put up a good fight but could not move past 204 runs.
