Be smart when moving to LA, that’s the best way to avoid any hardships in the beginning

Los Angeles is one of the largest cities in the world. If you decided to make it your living destination, there are two ways you can do it.

First one, you can simply move to LA and struggle a lot until you learn your way around.

The second way, learn how to be smart when moving to LA and make your life much easier from the beginning.

With the presumption that you’d rather try the second way, I have decided to share some of the tips to help you in this process.

How to be smart when moving to LA

If you wish to be smart when moving to LA, there are plenty of things you can do.

I will divide my advice list into two categories: before coming to LA and after coming to LA. With that in mind let’s see what can you do before you move to LA.

Be ready for a new beginning

It is essential to have a proper mindset when moving to LA.

A city this large can swallow you whole if you are not prepared, and your excitement can easily burn out. Be smart about it and learn how to prepare for new beginnings.

It is essential to stay positive, but at the same time be realistic with your expectations.

Find the right moving company

It is crucial to hire the best movers you can find when relocating to LA.

I always suggest to people to talk to multiple companies before deciding, but with my experience in moving, I discovered a few jewels hiding around.

Moving is a source of a lot of stress, and movers will take the stress away!

Be mindful when it comes to money

LA is not the most expensive city in the world, but that doesn’t mean you can be careless when it comes to money.

It is even mover important to have enough money in your pockets when starting a new life in a new city. Take all precautions to save as much money as you can.

When moving, it is essential to estimate the cost of your LA move correctly. Be sure to know in advance how much you are paying for the move, so you can manage your finances better.

Also, if you think there are things you can do on your own, do them! You’ll save money instead of spending it on hiring someone to do those things for you.

Learn to deal with the rejections

It is time to take a look at how to be smart after moving to LA.  The first thing you should do is to learn how to deal with rejections.

Whether you are looking for a new apartment or a new job, you must understand that the competition is fierce.

Even if you think that you nailed that interview, do not get your hopes up too soon. A pro tip would be to apply for multiple positions and hope for the best!

Learn your way around the LA

Navigating through a city this big can be frightening, and time-consuming.

In this situation, Google Maps is your best friend! Learn the layout of LA, and know 101, 405, and 10 highway in and out.

Some of the major roads in LA are Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard, Sepulveda, Olympic Boulevard, and Pico Boulevard.

They intersect through the city, so use them to avoid traffic jams.

No driving between 4 pm and 7 pm

When we talk about the best ways to avoid traffic jams in LA, the crucial advice is not to drive between 4 pm and 7 pm.

Everything just stops, and you can find yourself sitting in your car and going insane. Know that LA is a hot city, and that fact won’t help in this situation, it can only make it worse.

Be careful, there is crime in LA!

Like in every other city, correct?

Sure, but other cities don’t have what LA has, which is the Citizen App. Download it as soon as you arrive, because it can save your life. Literally.

The Citizen App lets you know if there are crimes or shootings happening in your vicinity. It alerts you in real-time, and it helps you to avoid any dangerous conflict.

Choose the safest area for living

Since we are on the topic of crime in LA, choose the safest area for living. Investigate the neighborhoods before you rent a place or buy a home.

You don’t want to end up in a bad neighborhood and move for the second time so soon.

Be realistic when it comes to your goals

LA is full of celebrities and successful people. If you moved here to test your luck and skill, and take a piece of that fortune and fame for you, it is essential to be realistic.

Do not compare yourself to others, it can backfire quickly. Everyone is working hard in LA, a lot of people have two jobs. With that in mind, start slow, but work hard. Nothing comes easy in LA!

Surround yourself with positive people

As soon as you move to LA, you’ll find out that there is a lot of negativity when it comes to some people.

It is difficult to survive in LA, and a lot of them are complaining about everything going bad in their lives, blaming LA in the process.

No one ever stops to think about the real reasons for bad things, themselves. Have that in mind, and be around positive people. Always question yourself and your choices!

Avoid credits and loans

The last advice that I can give you if you wish to be smart when moving to LA is to not use credits and loans to pay for stuff.

It seems like an easy way out of a tight financial situation. In reality, it is a trap that will quickly drain your credit. If you need more money, find a second job, or move to a better one!
