Juvenile Anxiety – Can Cannabidiol Solve It?

We, humans, are capable of inner deliberation, i.e. our behaviors are based on predictions of future outcomes. This has allowed mammals, especially the Homo genus, to adapt to the most diverse environments without succumbing to predators or extreme climates.
In particular, our conscious mind is linked to memory. For this reason, our brain is capable of autonoesis: that is, of autobiographical memory, we travel through time with the mind.
And traveling through time with the mind also implies a possible hypothesis of the future precisely.
Anxiety is about the future. Anxiety is an emotional, mental state perceived as unpleasant. It manifests itself following the perception of a threatening stimulus that intimidates our integrity.

Juvenile anxiety
Youth anxiety is often overlooked by parents and young people, with the risk that it can turn into chronic anxiety or hypochondriasis in adult life.
Adolescents and young adults generally find themselves in the peculiarly indefinite position between adults and children. Uncertainty can make them fragile and, therefore, more exposed to certain forms of anxiety, if not social phobia.
Following a bereavement, an accident, or domestic abuse, a pathological form of anxiety can branch out in the young, accompanied by all those physical ailments (tachycardia, panic attacks, excessive sweating, etc.).
Beyond traditional solutions, such as anxiolytics, can our beloved cannabidiol, a compound found in the cannabis plant, help young people resolve part of their anxieties? Let’s find out!
CBD and juvenile anxiety
In The UK, anxiety and depression disorders affect 1 out of 4 minors. When anxiety takes on a severe form, such as to prevent an everyday daily life, it is necessary to act on the symptoms. Hemp cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive principle with countless benefits. It works on our endocannabinoid system, which, as we have explained in our blog, is a sort of shield for the human body, a lubricant for the nervous system.
This is as true for a young person as it is for an adult. The advantage of CBD oil is that it can ease anxiety symptoms without creating a form of addiction and with very few side effects. Addiction to anxiolytics is quite common, and the problem can be solved with CBD oil.
There is still a lot of skepticism regarding products made with legal cannabis. Still, in reality, we find the minimum presence of THC (below 1%), which is the active ingredient that leads to psychotropic effects (the famous “high”).
For this reason, cannabis light has no contraindications because it is devoid of anything that can alter our immune system. On the contrary, it strengthens it. CBD can be taken in drops or other ways, but the benefits remain the same.
A study on cannabidiol against juvenile anxiety
A study conducted by Orygen, an Australian medical center specializing in youth mental health, demonstrates promising results in the published paper on the effect of CBD in dampening anxiety attacks in those patients who have failed conventional treatments.
“We see more and more young adults suffering from anxiety, it is a form of mental illness in young people, and we urgently need therapeutic innovation,” explains Professor Patrick McGorry, executive director of Orygen. He states that cannabidiol is a promising, safe, effective, and surprising therapeutic innovation.
Severe anxiety and CBD
People with severe anxiety disorders, frequent, for example, those who have post-traumatic stress disorder, manifest anxiety with arrhythmia, tachycardia, panic attacks, tremors, and paresthesias. CBD has soothing and relaxing properties, helpful in avoiding severe manifestations of anxiety. The study showed that the panic attacks of young patients were significantly reduced after three months of therapy.
This allowed them to carry out their normal daily activities: take public transport, go to school, meet peers or leave the house. In the future, Orygen would like to expand the number of subjects in the study to have a complete picture of the situation.
