Simply put, the kn95 mask is the Chinese equivalent to the n95 mask in the United States. It is regulated by the Chinese government and the kn95 is authorized by the FDA for emergency use. Both the n95 and kn95 masks can filter up to 95 percent of particles in the air and are made to create a fully airtight seal around the user’s face.

The kn95 mask works exactly like the United States’ n95 mask and is said to capture particles that are measuring .3 microns in diameter or more. While the COVID-19 virus is actually smaller than that, the mask is still considered to be one of the best ways to prevent contracting the illness.

The kn95 mask boasts incredible effectiveness thanks to its construction and its design. They are made from two outer layers of non-woven material that filter particles measuring .5 microns or more. In between these layers is an activated carbon filter layer that is used to absorb chemical pollution. Additionally, there is a thick cotton layer that is used to filter out particles that are .3 microns in diameter.
How do I wear a kn95 mask properly?
This is a really important part of the mask-wearing process. After all, the mask will cover little to no protection if you are wearing it incorrectly. Because kn95 masks are thicker than normal surgical masks, they are recommended to only be worn for about 30 minutes at a time when you are in high-risk areas such as an airplane, the shopping mart, or public transportation. Make sure that you do not have a beard or even stubble as that can break the air-tight seal. If your mask gets wet or dry in any way, it is best to toss it and start using a new one. Otherwise, you can expect to use a kn95 mask for about a week before you have to replace it.
